Overview
Sandwiches play a big part in our culinary culture.
For many, especially school children, a packed lunch containing a sandwich is a daily occurrence.
Others may go to the local sandwich shop or café and purchase a ready made or made to-order sandwich.
However, sandwiches are not just an Australian phenomenon. The sandwich exists in many forms and is a popular snack or meal in most countries around the world.
In its simplest form, it consists of two slices of bread spread with butter, and slice of meat, cheese, or other fillings in between.
In more advanced forms, open Danish, Club and gateau sandwiches are a visual delight and are considered a meal in their own right.
