There are very high social, economic and human costs associated with workplace accidents. About 500 people die each year from workplace accidents.

Research shows that in most cases these accidents could have been prevented. If you are aware of the potential hazards in your workplace you will be in a much better position to prevent an accident happening to you.

Nobody benefits from accidents in the workplace. For obvious reasons none of us wants to suffer an injury or cause injury to others as a result of carelessness at work.

In this unit you will learn how to:

• Observe basic safety procedures
• Observe basic emergency procedures.
