Prepare appetisers and salads
Have you ever considered what it would be like to sit down to the same meal three times a day, seven days a week, every week of the year? Meal times would certainly lose their appeal.
Most of us like to have variety in the types of foods that we consume. We enjoy a variation of flavours, textures, colours, ingredients, and even temperatures. In fact, many of us get excited when we sit down to eat something new, different or interesting food combinations.
Salads and appetisers go a long way to providing variation to menus and our diet. At the same time they provide a nutritious and attractive supplement to the main course of a meal or can be served alone as a meal in their own right.
You are about to develop the skills and knowledge required to prepare and present a variety of salads and appetisers in a logical and efficient manner and to store them safely and hygienically at the correct temperature in a commercial kitchen or catering operation.
As a cook you will often be called upon to select and combine ingredients to prepare and present a wide range of salads, dressings and appetisers. Developing and expanding your skills and knowledge in these areas will always be put to good use.
