Troubleshooting issue G



Issues and Symptoms


The content can be viewed but the Flash elements are not functioning.

Symptoms:
  • When an audio icon is clicked, no sound is played
  • When a movie icon is clicked, no video is played
  • When other icons are clicked, no interactivity is played/shown
  • Navigation buttons (left and right arrows) are clicked, you are not directed to the next/ previous page.



Instructions


Before making any changes to the Adobe Flash security, please make sure you have the following:
  • Internet connection
  • A Didasko resource CD/USB
  • An Microsoft web browser



Step 1: Run the Didasko resource with a Microsoft Internet web browser

Step 2: Locate a page with some Flash elements (Icons, Interactive content, etc)

Step 3: Move the mouse pointer onto one of the Flash element/picture and then right mouse click (see Pic 1). Click on “Settings…” .

Step 4: An Adobe Flash Player Settings dialogue box will appear. Click the first tab from the left (a monitor icon) and then click “Advanced…”

Step 5: A new web browser will open. On the left menu, click “Global Security Settings Panel” (see Pic 3).

Step 6: On the left, an Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager menu will appear. At the bottom right, click on the “Edit locations…” and a pull down menu will appear. Then click “Add location…” (see Pic 4).

Step 7:Click “Browse for folder…”

Step 8:In the My Computer, locate your Didasko resource CD or USB thumb drive.

  • If your operating system is Windows XP please refer Pic 6
  • If your operating system is Windows Vista please refer Pic 7

Note: If you are unsure of your CD or USB drive, please consult your IT staff.

Step 9: Once you have selected the drive (of your CD or USB resource), click OK.

Step 10: You will return to the Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager. In the “Always trust files in these locations” box, you should be able to see your resource CD or USB drive listed as trusted files (See Pic 8)

Note: In this example, the CD is located in the D: drive. Your drive may be different from the example. If you are unsure of your CD or USB drive, please consult your IT staff.

Step 11: Close the current web browser and return to the Didasko Resource.

Step 12: Refresh the Didasko Resource by pressing “F5”.

Step 13: Check the Flash content. The elements should be working by now. If it does not, close the web browser and re-launch the Didasko Resource again.
